Zombie Jesus by Zephyrinous Zombie Jesus by Zephyrinous
By complete and utter lack of popular demand, here's zombie jesus, here to offend and delight in equal parts.
He'll eat your brain, save your soul and apparently steal your wallet.

Zephyrinous :)

Not sure what to say ... Your picture is the first I have had anything to say about since I started admiring the work people do here.

Your picture is a pretty straightforward cartoon. Not to fancy, but it doesn't need to be.

What catches ones attention is the subject matter. I was doing some browsing on DA tryingto get inspired for a zombie project, and I keep running into these 'zombie Jesus' pictures.

Now I am all for free speech, and I do think the idea that speech itself should be criminalized for any reason is toxic to a just society.

Still I am troubled by speech that can appear to be hateful towards a group of people. I don't blame all Muslims for terrorism. I don't blame all Catholics for the occassional molester. I don't blame all Atheists for the harsher dogmas of a few.

I myself am a former Atheist. Hardly any Atheist ever takes me at my word for this, and when they do, they assume I am irrational.

I am what I am through reason. Today I am a Christian, and my reasons are mine. I left Atheism behind me.

I don't begrudge you your sense of humor, or your disapproval (not hate) for beliefs you don't share.

But I would ask you to consider the effect on people to whom these things matter. It is often hurtful.

I don't get that you are a hurtful person. And not much offends me personally, but I have come to see the 'zombie Jesus' joke as hurtful.

Like racial humor. Some people would say you can't help what race you are, but I would say that matters of faith aren't easily helped either.

I'm no artist, but if I were I'd try to avoid doing things if I learned they were hurtful.

The hard part of course, is holding true to your opinions without crossing that line. What we all must strive for.

With best wishes from a former Atheist.

Hmm, again Christians from all over the world goes crazy with quotes from the bible and well-written sentences. Choosing not only to to flame the drawing down, but also to make a complete fool of themselves. Jesus Bloody Christ, I love it xD Not because of the anger it provokes, but because of the questions it raises. Good job mate ^^

i'm sorry you see it that way.
i worship a loving and just God.
a God of second chances.
only those who reject the free gift of salvation will be eternally separated from God.
but they will get another chance after that too.
wow, that was very flowery.

what do you believe then?
...if you don't mind me asking.

Your God is a loving God but if you dont believe in him than you burn in hell forever and ever and ever. Thats absolutely insane and thats the truth.

I dont believe in things that are invisible and threaten people with hell if they dont believe in the invisible entity. I believe in the same things you do too probably minus the whole invisible God thing.

I don't believe God threatens anyone with hell. he really wants a relationship with us. man didn't keep up his end of the friendship and brought sin into the world, which doomed us to hell. God cannot be in the presence of sin, which is how i picture hell-being separated from God, not burning and being poked by satan with a pitchfork. but He loved us (me, you, everyone who ever lived or lives today, everyone who will live). He loved us SO much that he came in human form and died for us. And 3 days later, he gloriously rose from the grave. He showed that He was God, by conquering death itself. He did that so that we could be in His presence. That we could experience true love.

actually, i see God in everything.
especially nature.
well i don't physically see the entity of God, but i do see His work, His artistry. that's partly why i became an artist.

what about creation?
what do you believe about that?

p.s. i'm sorry this was such a long explanation.
i just wanted you to know what i believe, and that God loves you whether you know it or not.

God doesnt threaten us? Are you kidding me?

Here is Gods non threatening love.

I love you so much that I gave you free will. But remember if you dont love me than I will beat you in the face with a club for the rest of eternity, I love you though. I will remain invisible and ambiguous just to keep you guessing but remember if you dont believe in my invisiblenesss than I will light your toes on fire. But remember I love you but if you die and you dont love me than I will have no choice but to throw you into a pit of burning sulfur forever!

You see God everywhere you say? Which one? Since all gods are invisible and take faith to believe in than how do you know which one it is? I know the answer already though. You think its the Christian one because you were born into a christian family and christian area. If you were born in India you would think that Shiva was your god. If you were born in Iraq, you would think Allah was your God...etc.

What about creation? Which God did it? And even better yet, where did your incredibly complex God come from? He has to be more complex than the universe since he supposedly created it so where did it come from? You are fine with your God existing for no reason but not the universe? Something tells me you are keeping a double standard there bub.

like i said, God cannot be in presence of sin. that is the ONLY reason why people go to hell. if one accepts Jesus into their life and believes that He is Lord and that he conquered death, then He will forgive our sins and let us be in the presence of God. God does NOT threaten us with hell. He cannot be where sin is. one goes to hell if he rejects Jesus, which states that they do not believe that Jesus died for their sin. how can u be forgiven and good enough for heaven, if you don't believe you can and have been? and, once again, i believe that hell is a separation from God forever....not an eternal burn at the stake.

sure, God is "invisible," but what i meant by "i see Him in everything" is that i see what he's doing in my life, in other lives, and in His beautiful creation. I know it is the one, true God. sure, i've had my doubts. sure, i've thought about if that was the case, that i only had christian beliefs because i was born into a christian society. but, as i grow older, i find so many things that prove that my God is the omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient creator God. everything is linked to the bible.

God is omnipresent. He was, and is, and is to come. He has been here infinitely. no one created Him. He created the universe for us. All of creation is like if you were getting a puppy. you have to get a doghouse, a water and food bowl, a leash, a collar, toys, etc. now, the normal person wouldn't just get those things and not the puppy. God created the universe for us.....now i'm NOT saying that we are like God's little pets or whatever. no, we are a creation to share His immense love with.
i can't explain why God exists. i don't think anyone can say why their gods exist.

you know what, just to clear things up a little, i don't believe i have a "religion." It's not a religion. It's a relationship with a creator that loves me for me, no matter what i look like, no matter how stupid i act, no matter how filthy a person i am, even if i don't love Him back sometimes (which does NOT condemn me to hell), even if i mess up (He'll forgive me), even if i see, hear, say, or do wrong. i know God loves me. i know He loves you too, whether you want to accept it or not.

and btw i was asking what you thought about creation, as in if you believed in a certain theory (big bang, string, etc....)

You people are so dense in the head you know that?

Of course I believe in facts like evolution, and the big bang, even though it wasnt a big bang like the name states.

By the way, your bible is asanine. Didnt you realize that it says slavery is just dandy, and women are inferior to men? Dont you realize it tells you to stone homosexuals, to stone wizards if you find one, and so on and so forth. It is absolutely retarded in my opinion and should be in anyones opinion if they have a correctly functioning brain.

Dont you realize you believe in a freakin talking snake, a magic tree, a dude that built a boat that stuffed all of the millions of species onto it? Dont you realize that nobody deserves to burn in a lake of fire for all of eternity? Nobody deserves that at all, especially based off of what you believe in.

Dont you realize all of this stuff? You musnt because than you wouldnt be believing in your idiotic religion.

When you respond next time, please keep it short.

well yes i'm a christian and i don't understand why people make fun of our religion. (no wait i'm sorry it's not even a religion, it's a relationship with God.)
maybe it's because you feel safe doing it.
if you make fun of arabs or their beliefs they'll physically attack you (or some real activists will suicide bomb)
and you never see real christians attack people because its against our beliefs.
that DOES NOT mean that we will not stand up for ourselves.
and furthermore the reason why i'm insulted by this is simply because you're belittling Jesus and making fun of Him. why would you do that?
well hold on what's your religion or beliefs?
then i might be ableto explain more fully

I'm glad you responded - I'm interested in what you have to say, and I'd like to be able to carry on a conversation with you about the topic. Hopefully, by the end of it, we'll both understand each other's viewpoints.

With regards to my religious beliefs, I'm an Athiest, strongly influenced by Buddhism, Douglas Adams, and my own logic and cynicism.
I believe in science, logic and maths. I see the current world we inhabit as a result of basic rules of physics and probability interacting to produce complex results. The fact that I don't believe in any divine beings being responsible for the world or its inhabitants makes it no less awesome in my mind.

As for why I chose to create humour based on christianity, rather than a different religion, it's a response to the environment I inhabit. Over here in Australia (I'm assuming you're American, because most people on dA tend to be), the attitude towards religion tends to be more relaxed, but most people who are religious over here tend to be, as far as I've noticed, christian.
The bottom line is, I know more about christianity than I do about other religions, simply because of where I've grown up.
So, when I happened to think of something I thought was rather funny which happened to be religious, it was christian, not because I deliberately set out to offend specifically christians, but because it happened to be a detail of the idea.
If I happen to think of something I find funny enough about Islam, Buddhism, Judaism, Jainism, Athiesm, or any other religion that comes to mind, I'll treat it the same way and post it to the site.

That said, I'd like to point out that technically, you actually were attacking me, albeit verbally. Not that I'm complaining, though, because it started this conversation, which has so far proven to be very interesting, and well worth continuing.

okay so what are your beliefs on how the universe was created?
Reply

I follow the Big Bang scientific theory - the universe quite literally exploded from a zero dimensional point of pure energy, creating the base elements of matter and the constant outwards expansion of the universe. Stars formed, planets formed, and eventually, life formed (which brings us to evolution, which I've already established I believe in).
How about you? I know you believe in jesus, but do you believe in a literal omnipotent creator, or do you believe that the creation myth is a metaphor for the Big Bang or whatever other theory you choose?
Heck, while we're on the topic, tell me more about the specific nature of your religious beliefs - what denomination of christian are you? Do *you* believe in evolution? (something tells me you probably don't).

but that's like
well
if you are shipwrecked on a deserted island and you find a rolex watch in the sand
would you think:
1. the ocean and the sand and the minerals and everything came together and with the waves and tide must have created this watch?
or
2.someone must have been there and dropped it?

well this is like the creation of the world
i wouldn't think it would just come together perfectly

i'm Southern Baptist
i don't believe in evolution
but i know a christian teacher that sorta does

So you're arguing that the world as we know it is too complex to have formed through chance? It would be a good argument, except for the fact that we're not looking at a watch. We're looking at a system that is complex, yes, but a system that we can track the developement of from its first stages. We don't have to guess - hell, if you want evidence for the Big Bang, astronomers found the background radiation from the event in 1964.
I can also link you to a rather nice timeline of the big bang creation of the universe: [link]

My point it, the watchmaker argument only really holds true for a complex system that couldn't have developed on its own - something that doesn't apply to the universe, because we can check out the evidence for how it came to be.

Out of curiousity, for someone who seems to be very upset with the idea of people making jokes around christian concepts, you seem to be doing a good job of it yourself in your signature. "God will eat your cookie"? How do you justify the dual standard?

IT IS NOT FUNNY ONE BIT!!! IT WAS THE ONE EVENT IN HISTORY THAT MADE A HUGE DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF GOD'S PEOPLE!!!
well yes he rose from the dead but He did it in a glorious way.
even if He did look like a zombie or whatever you want to call it no one would be thinking about it.
i'm pretty sure that they would just be AMAZED that He was back from the dead!
